post-mortem photography;

Today in class we mentioned post-mortem photography; I actually posted on my blog about Victorian mourning photos last week for anyone who is interested: http://amandajunebrawner.tumblr.com/post/2957074740/victorian-post-mortem-mourning-photographs;
It’s a morbid but interesting part of photographic history.

    June, thanks for sharing these pictures! You mentioned that this practice is still popular in Eastern Europe. I actually found some pictures from my grandfather’s funeral (of the coffin, but also during the ceremony) from the late 60s. I asked my mother about this practice and she told me that people used to do that quite often back then because they wanted to remember the deceased. Having your picture taken was considered an important investment and they even did it at the funerals, to mark the importance of the moment.

  2. Wonderful post! You’ve made some really helpful statements and I appreciate the time you’ve taken within your producing.Thanks for taking time to posting this blog.
